| Wanjiri wins London Marathon |
26 April: Kenya's Olympic champion Samuel Wanjiri won the London marathon on Sunday in a new course record of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 9 seconds. He was pushed all the way by Ethiopia's Tsegay Kebade, who finished second with Jaouad Gharib third. Wanjiri set off at a blistering pace and at the half-way mark all eyes were on Haile Grebrselassie's world record mark of 2 hours, 3 minutes, 59 seconds and although he slowed over the second half he still crossed the line to clock the seventh fastest marathon ever run.
