| Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay win in London |
25 July: Olympic triple champion Usain Bolt (left) stormed to victory in the 100 metres at the IAAF Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on Friday. His time of 9.91 seconds was run into a headwind of 1.7 metres per second. Former world record holder and Jamaican compatriot, Asafa Powell, finished in a disappointing sixth after slipping at the start of the race. 33-year-old Bahamian, Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie claimed she was improving with age like a fine wine after cruising to victory in the women's 200 metres. She holds the fastest time for a woman this year over 200 metres. On Saturday, American Tyson Gay proved he will provide stiff opposition to Usain Bolt at next month's World Championships in Berlin by winning the men's 200m in 20 seconds dead. In the women's pole vault, Yelena Isinbayeva provided a major shock by failing to win in a major event for the first time since 2003. The Russian achieved 4.68metres but was beaten, on countback, by Poland's Anna Rogowska.
