| New global league from the IAAF |
The IAAF has announced plans to dramatically rejuvenate athletics with a new global league set to spring from the blocks in 2010. The Diamond League will see athletes such as triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt compete in 12 meetings a year across Asia, Europe and the USA. The six existing Golden League events in Europe will be replaced. It is expected that 8 meets will be in Europe with two in the USA, one in China and one in another Asian venue, possibly Doha. Athletes from 32 different track and field events will compete for prize money of $416,000 per meeting.
