| Argentina progress in FIFA qualification bid |
Argentina progressed in their FIFA World Cup™ qualification bid with a comprehensive 4-0 over Venezuela on 28 March. Coach and home-country hero Diego Maradona was vindicated for playing three short strikers as each scored a goal. The trio of Carlos Tevez, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero have an average height of just 1.7 metres but this was no problem for the home side who emerged comfortable winners. Paraguay lead the South America qualifying group after 11 games with 23 points, followed by Argentina and Chile on 19 points with Brazil in fourth place with 18 points. The top four qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ with the fifth team entering a home and away play-off against the fourth team from the North, Central America and Caribbean group.
