| Ryan Giggs Wins Players Award |
27 April: Ryan Giggs has won the Professional Footballers Association Player of the Year Award for the first time in his career. The Manchester United midfielder has been in terrific form in this, his 18th season at the Old Trafford club. Giggs, now 35, beat fellow United players Nemanja Vidic, Edwin Van Der Sar, Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to win the title. The Welsh international made his United debut against Everton at the age of 17 in March 1991. His manager then, as now, was Sir Alex Ferguson. If he plays against Arsenal in the European Champions League semi-final, first leg on 29 April, it will be his 800th appearance for the club.
