| Egypt protest to Fifa about penalty decision |
16 June: Egypt have lodged an official complaint with Fifa after English referee Howard Webb awarded a last-minute penalty against them in their Confederations Cup match against Brazil. the African champions had scored twice in a minute to level at 3-3 against South American champions, Brazil. Webb initially seemed to point to the corner flag after Egyptian defender Ahmed Al Mohamady cleared the ball off the line, but then gave a penalty and sent off Al Mohamady after conferring with his assistant. Egypt's view is that the assistant could only have made the penalty decision after reviewing video evidence, which is not allowed by Fifa. It is an interesting point. Video evidence clearly shows Al Mohamady diving to his right to deflect the ball away - a clear handball and a clear sending-off offence. Kaka stepped up to fire home the penalty and record a narrow 4-3 win for Brazil. So, was justice done in the end?
