| Manchester City spending spree continues |
29 July: Manchester City's spending spree continues with the reported £16 million signing of Kolo Touré from Arsenal. The Ivory Coast defender signed a 4-year contract at Eastlands, ending a seven-year spell with the Gunners. City boss Mark Hughes made no secret of the fact that he was looking to bring top class defenders to the club and the 28-year-old Touré fits the bill, bringing skill and experience. So far Hughes has been unsuccessful in his efforts to lure John Terry away from Chelsea or Joleon Lescott from Everton. His latest purchase has brought the club's spending this summer to around £96 million after securing the services of Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and now Kolo Touré. Recession? What recession?
