The vuvuzela is the sound of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Everywhere you go people are blowing the plastic trumpets - on the streets, from cars and in the football stadiums. For many people the vuvuzela adds to the carnival atmosphere in South Africa but for others the deafening sound is too much. The intense noise reaches levels of 140 dB, louder than a chain-saw or referees whistle. In today's show Steve Vickers explores differing attitudes to the vuvuzela and considers the potential damage that the instrument can cause to hearing.
It was the Brazilian great, Pele, who described football as The Beautiful Game. He may not have been the first to use the phrase but he certainly took it and made it his own.
