On the 11th June 32 teams started in the World Cup finals in South Africa with differing degrees of expectation but with great hope. After the group stages, 16 went home including the reigning champions, Italy, and 2006 losing finallists, France. Clayton Bjelan (right) in Melbourne tells us the reaction in Australia to the Socceroos' elimination at the first hurdle and how the team is now building for the future.

As the World Cup tournament moves towards the final on 11th July, the pressure on the remaining teams grows. Japan were eliminated by Paraguay in a penalty shoot-out in their round-of-16 tie.
