The standard of refereeing at this year's FIFA World Cup has come under the spotlight with high profile mistakes hitting the headlines.  Germany fans enjoyed the sense of irony when Frank Lampard's shot was ruled out despite clearing the line by a metre, reflecting on Geoff Hurst's goal in the 1966 final which appeared to hit the line but not cross it. 

mexican_fans_cropped_lowresMexico fans were hurt when Carlos Tevez's goal was allowed to stand by officials although he was two metres offside when he put the ball in the net.  So, should FIFA now allow technology to assist match officials and bring football in line with other sports that do allow technology such as cricket, rugby union and tennis?
