Gavin Peacock (right) played over 600 matches in a football career spanning 17 years from 1984-2001. As a youngster he played for England Schoolboys and England Youth before signing for west London club, Queens Park Rangers. In 1989 he was signed by Bournemouth manager, Harry Redknapp, now the boss at Tottenham before moving to Newcastle United a year later. He matured as an attacking midfield player during his time at St James' Park and helped the Geordie side gain promotion to the Premier League. His talents were spotted by Chelsea and in 1993 he moved to Stamford Bridge in a £1.5 million deal. In the 1993/94 season he famously scored the winning goal in both league matches against Manchester United and, in the FA Cup Final against the same side, hit the crossbar when the score was still 0-0 (United went on to win 4-0). In the first of a special two-part interview, Gavin talks to Planet Sport about his career in football, some of the great players and coaches he has worked with, and how he combined his faith as a follower of Jesus with playing Premier League football. (You can hear part two of the interview in the 11 August show.) Download the show or listen online:
